Senior Bankers Cruise the British Isles and France
Fifteen Senior Bankers recently completed a twelve day cruise of the British Isles. The group traveled from their Middle Georgia homes to the Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport for a trans-Atlantic flight to Southampton, England. A motor coach awaited the group for a tour of Central London. The Seniors enjoyed seeing many historical sites there, including Westminster Abby, and listening to the chiming of the famous “Big Ben” clock.
The group then boarded the Caribbean Princess for exciting ports of call in England, Scotland, Ireland, and France. The Seniors enjoyed beautiful sights and places in the English Channel, such as the Guernsey Ireland’s Little Chapel and a horse-drawn carriage tour of Sark Island. Then, our cruise liner continued on to Cork Island, Scotland to see the Blarney Castle and other outstanding sites before heading back to Ireland to visit the bustling city of Dublin. This excursion featured a tour of the city and a stopover at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
Over the next few days, the ship docked in various locations in Scotland beginning with the Glasgow/Greenoch area to see sites such as Inveraray Castle and Loch Lomond. The Caribbean Princess made a stopover in Belfast, Northern Ireland for an unforgettable visit to the Giant’s Causeway and then headed back to Scotland.
The Orkney Islands in Kirkwall, Scotland proved to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. High winds, rolling mountains, and lush terrain added to the beauty of the islands. Other Scottish ports included Invergordon, home of the legendary Loch Ness monster, and Edinburgh to see the famous Edinburgh Castle.
After a day at sea, the Caribbean Princess docked a La Havre, France. Many in the group visited the historic beaches of Normandy while others traveled on to Paris. A visit to the Louve to see the Mona Lisa, followed by lunch in the Eiffel Tower, provided an unforgettable treat for many of the travelers.
After crossing the English Channel, on the way back to the port in England, the Seniors awoke to the news of the birth of Prince George, the possible future King of England, to William and Kate. The news created an added twist to an already great trip.
After flying back across the Atlantic Ocean, with a stopover at JFK airport in New York City, the travelers finally landed back on Georgia soil in Atlanta. A midnight shuttle ride back to Middle Georgia completed the two week cruise tour, but left many with great memories to cherish for a lifetime!
For the remainder of 2013 and beginning in 2014, several more exciting trips are ahead. A short 6-day cruise tour of the West Coast in September will be followed by a return trip to the Big Apple - Christmas in New York City - during the first week of December.
In 2014, trips are already scheduled for Hawaii in May, Alaska in August and a beautiful fall visit through the Smoky Mountains ending up with a stay in Niagara Falls and a side trip to Toronto, Canada.
